Note: As of 10 September 2013, Socialite was discontinued. It will receive no further updates, but will be supported by its developer until 1 November 2013. MacUpdate will continue to provide a download link so long as the file is available.
Socialite is a revolutionary social application. It seamlessly integrates many social websites, including Flickr, Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, RSS and Google Reader. It allows you to interact with them and receive notifications, all from a stunning user interface.
What's new in version 1.5.4
Version 1.5.4:
- Fixes Twitter search following Twitter API 1.1 changes
- Removes support for adding new Google Reader accounts. Old account still work, probably until Google shuts down the service on July 1st. We're currently waiting to see if other RSS services will support Google Reader API for subscription and syncing. One such candidate is Feedly.com. It's a good service and they're working on a Google Reader-compatible API. They can migrate your Google Reader account to their service, too.

Received an email from the developer as follows...
"We regretfully have to announce the end-of-life of Socialite application. We are deeply sorry that Socialite came to this bitter end, and we understand the frustration of loyal Socialite users.
We did our best to make it work, but to all things there is a beginning and an end, and this is the end of Socialite. Hopefully, it will also be a beginning of something else."
...so it was fun while it lasted. Have been using ReadKit as an RSS alternative (because of its Feedly integration). As to incorporating Twitter, Facebook, Flickr etc., who knows.

Socialite phones home to Google Analytics.
The only reason to do so to my knowledge is to allow Google surveillance of my computer behavior. If your app is going to surveil my computer use, then ASK MY PERMISSION FIRST, DAMMIT. I have used my reverse firewall Little Snitch to deny Socialite access to Google Analytics forever. I suggest other folks with reverse firewalls consider doing the same.

Today was notified by the app that a new version was available. After installing, I can no longer click on the blue quote balloon to see comments to people's initial postings. When I do, the original post moves to the top and greys out, and no comments are displayed.
